In the recent years, there has been much research regarding the learning and teaching strategies for improving listening ability of EFL learners. The present experimental study aimed to examine the effect of an adapted reading model on EFL listening performance in Iran. The participants whotook part in this study were 40 female EFL learners. The pre-test which was prepared by researcher was conducted to see and make sure that learners’ listening comprehension ability is more and less the same. Next, the treatment was run and it lasted for two months and for 10 sessions through which the experimental and control groups participated three times a week. Participants in the control group worked on listening comprehension by traditional techniques and learners in the experimental group worked on listening comprehension by an adapted reading comprehension model which had been developedby Omaggio (1994), and included a four-stages plan (Pre-teaching/Preparation Stage, Skimming/Scanning Stage, Comprehension Stage, Transferable/Integrating Skills). In order to analyze data gathered, SPSS software version 18 was used in this study. After running the treatment course, both groups took part in the post test. As a conclusion, the resultsindicated a positive effect of using the adapted reading model on EFL learners’ listening skill. The findings of this study could offer promising implications for syllabus designers, material developers, EFL/ESL instructors, and learners
