Abstract
Today, man lives in the post-modern era where reality has lost its meaning. Jean Baudrillard (1929-2007), a French philosopher and sociologist who was interested in the concept of reality, believed that in todayʹs world, reality has become a simulated reality through a four-step simulation process. In the process, hyperreality is the last stage of simulation. From Jean Baudrillardʹs point of view, society has replaced reality with signs and symbols, which has created hyperreality. In hyperreality, it is impossible to distinguish reality from simulated reality. Therefore, human experience consists only of simulation, not reality itself. Baudrillardʹs theory of hyperreality is one of the most influential theories in post-modern literature, which has attracted the attention of many researchers. On the other hand, the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude written by Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014), a Colombian author, is one of the most significant novels of this period, which won the Nobel Prize. At the beginning of the story, Jose and his companions arrived at the village of Macondo and chose it to live. This movement from the motherland to an unknown land represents their first separation from the history to which they belonged. It is one of the signs of living in the Hyperreal world that a postmodern individual who has no connection to his history lives in this world. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate Jean Baudrillardʹs theory of hyperreality in the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude.
