Nowadays technology has influenced our life and global development specially education. Technological development causes significant changes in teaching and learning process. Moreover, Technology has revolutionized the way students acquire information, their peer collaboration and their interaction with their teachers. Technologies such as mobile phones let students personalize their learning and access different online resources and E-books, further more educational technology tools such as video conferencing or collaborative platforms increase students‘ teamwork and facilitate communicative language teaching. A successful language teaching process needs a great interaction and collaboration of both teachers and students in the course of language learning. On the one hand, vocabulary is the important component of language learning which language learners and teachers try to use different ways in order to accelerate and facilitate these processes and studies show that technology-based learning can improve vocabulary mastery. The existence of wide range of words about different topics and at different levels with different examples and pictures or videos allow students to learn more words authentically. At the recent years, studies show students‘ growing interest to learning through technology. This study aims to investigate the effect of Word-up app and Vocab Quizlet app on male and female EFL learners‘ vocabulary. To reach this purpose, 175 upper intermediate students were selected randomly among 500 students. One hundred and twenty-five students were chosen among 175 students based on the result of their performance in Nelson test and were divided randomly into 3 groups: two experimental groups and one control group. Vocabulary Knowledge Scale including 100 unfamiliar words was given to the students. Among which Eighty-five unfamiliar words were taught during 12 sessions. After the treatment, a vocabulary posttest was given to students in order to evaluate their vocabulary knowledge.

Finally, Two-Way ANOVA was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that Word-up and Vocab Quizlet have positive effects on vocabulary learning. However, Word-up outperformed Vocab Quizlet app. Moreover, the t- test showed that there is no significance difference between males and females. The result of the study can be used in different English teaching classes and not only teachers can use them as a flexible and interesting approach in teaching English such as using interactive online quizzes, virtual games or simulations where students put knowledge into action, and it can fasten the time of learning but also students can use them for reviewing and deeply understanding lessons. Moreover, parents can take advantage of these applications to check children‘s talents and levels.
