The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of Lesson Study on Iranian EFL intermediate learners’ writing accuracy. To fulfill this aim, the researcher selected 63 male EFL learners out of initial total of 100 learners who were learning English at Goftman Language Institute, Ardebil, Iran, based on their scores in Nelson English Language Test and randomly assigned them into one control and two experimental groups (i.e., 21 students in each group). At first, the participants in all groups wrote a paragraph on a specified topic as the pre-test. The first experimental group received treatment (the first cycle of lesson Study ) on learning eight basic grammar items while the second experimental group was taught using the modified lesson plan from reflection on the first cycle (2nd cycle of lesson Study ); meanwhile the control group was taught in conventional ways without any intervention from lesson Study team. In the end of the treatment period, all groups took part in writing post-test. An ANCOVA was run not only to compare the performance of the groups after the treatment but also to show whether post-test differences were due to the effect of treatment – lesson Study – or their differences in pre-test as the covariate. The results of the ANCOVA on the scores (obtained based on the number of errors per T-unit) revealed that second experimental group, who was taught using modified lesson plan based on the team’s reflection on the first phase of lesson Study , showed significantly better performance in terms of writing accuracy in comparison to both the first experimental group and the control group. Moreover, the first experimental group with study lesson but without implementation of the results of reflection-on-action outperformed the control group in reducing the number of grammatical errors in writing. The results of the present study could help textbook designers, educational planners, material developers, foreign language institutes, teachers, and learners to provide a better context for foreign language learning and improving different language skills.
