Abstract Research article title is the important feature that attracts the reader's attention, the feature from which she/he may decide whether the whole article is worth reading. This study aimed at conducting a syntactic analysis of applied linguistics research articles titles written by native and non-native English authors. The data of the present study was obtained from 100 RAs published in International and Iranian local journals written by native and non-native English speaking authors (50 papers from each group of authors). The papers written by native and non-native authors were published between 2010 to 2020. A quantitative descriptive approach was applied in this study. Afterwards, the collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in terms of the frequency of using research articles titles in terms of title length (number of words), title style (single-unit or multiple-unit), title unit structure (syntactic structure). Additionally, to check the statistical significance of observed frequency differences, Chi-square test was employed to answer the research questions. (The result of the study indicated that there is significance difference in terms of the frequency of title length, title style, and title unit structure in native and non-native corpora). The gained results may be useful for both teaching second language writing in general as well as teaching English academic writing for Persian advanced learners and Persian scholars.
