The genre study has focused on the rhetorical structure of research articles and moved-based analysis on the textual function in the recent years. The present study aimed to investigate the move structure of English research article introduction sections based on Swale's (2004) model of move analysis. Overall, 30 English language teaching, 30 English literature, 30 translation studies articles were selected from the journals during 2010 to 2020.The result of frequency of move structure occurrences of three corpora was almost similar. In addition, the results of a series of Chi square test revealed no significant difference among the research article from the three fields of study. The findings of the study have implication for novice scholars in that they facilitate better understanding of rhetorical move in academic writing and genre analysis in the field of applied linguistics.
