In the age of globalization and digitalization audiovisual translation have become an important field for making the communication and cultural transfer easier. In this research the researcher tried to investigate the strategies used in the translation of idiomatic expressions in subtitled animations . In order to investigate the strategies used by translators the researcher used the model of taxonomy and categorization of the strategiesfor translating idioms proposed by Baker(1992). The material gathered for analyzing in this study consisted of 182 English idioms and their corresponding Persian translation extracted from four subtitled English animation movies. The results revealed that translation by paraphrasing was by far the most common way of translating idioms and translation of idioms by an idiom of similar meaning and form is the least commonly used strategy for the translation of idioms.The results can be useful in many ways. First, for those translators who want to translate idioms especially in the subtitles of movies; translation teachers can also use the results of this study. The findings of this research can also help the translators who are interested in the translation for children which is a hard and sensitive task.
