چكيده
Censorship is one of the most important challenges facing translators. On the one hand, paying attention to the audience and on the other hand, remaining faithful to the main text and dialogue of the film have always been the main concerns of translators. Moreover, the use of subtitles as one of the most important means of translating a film has always been the focus of translators.This study examines the phenomenon of censorship in the translation of Persian subtitles in eight different movies in various genres of action, comedy, drama, and fiction, which aresubtitled by different Iranian translators, and then compare the Persian subtitles with the original dialogues of the movies, highlighting approaches and strategies for subtitling translationpresented by Gottlieb (1992) and translation of taboo words and culturally specific items presented by Khoshsaligheh et al. (2016). In addition, in this study, fifty participants are selected, and their responds to the specific-designed questions are analyzed to scrutinize the necessity of using censorship in subtitles translation of the film, its effect on the audience, and analyzing how well the original meanings and concepts of the movies are conveyed by the viewers. This research can be used by cultural institutions and related organizations, as well as Iranian translators for better translationsof Western movies by considering Iranian culture and custom
