چكيده
This study investigated language learning strategy training adopted by Iranian EFL teachers in their classes. It also aimed at exploring Iranian EFL teachers’ attitudes towards training different language learning strategies. Ten English classes were observed to record the status of learning strategy training in the Iranian context and 40 Iranian English teachers from Rasht, Iran answered a researcher-made questionnaire investigating their opinions regarding a variety of strategies. In addition, five Iranian teachers who had practiced teaching strategies in their classes participated in interviews and provided some additional insights concerning the efficiency of instructing language learning strategies in their classes. The results of the three parts of the investigation were analyzed to provide answers to the initial research questions. According to the results, advanced organizers, repetition and translation were the most frequent strategies which were trained during the observations, and Iranian EFL teachers spent most of the time on practicing stage of teaching each language learning strategy. The results also indicated that Iranian teachers demonstrated more positive attitudes towards teaching cognitive strategies in comparison to metacognitive and socio-affective strategies.
