چكيده
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social skills (high and low) and speaking ability of Iranian EFL learners of intermediate proficiency level. Participants of the study were 40 non-native EFL males and females learners of Zaban Afarin institute in Rafsanjan whose first language was Persian. An Oxford placement test (OPT) was administered to learners who were studying the English language in this institute and then forty intermediate participants were selected based on the results of the OPT. Novotny Social Skills Inventory for measuring the participants’ social skills were completed and an IELTS Speaking Test for assessing speaking ability was administered by the two raters in order to find the relationship between social skills and speaking skill of Iranian EFL learners. Results rejected the null hypothesis and suggested that there was a meaningful and significant relationship between social skills and speaking skill of Iranian intermediate EFL students.
